Justin Spurlock is an eighth generation Tennessean who is running to represent the people of the 78th District in the State House of Representatives in the Tennessee General Assembly. Justin is a resident of Burns, Tennessee where he lives with his wife Nikki, and two boys Braxton and Knox.
Justin was born and raised in Dickson County, Tennessee and is a proud graduate of Dickson County High School. After high school, Justin attended Freed-Hardeman University where he graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Secondary Education.
After college, Justin was employed by the state of Tennessee as a social worker for the Department of Children’s Services. There, he served as an investigator, working on child abuse cases. After serving in that role for several years, Justin decided to enter the field of education.
Over the course of ten years, he has worked at 4 different schools in two different states, which includes teaching and coaching sports at both public and private schools. In 2018 Justin received the prestigious “Teacher of the Year” award from Rutherford County Schools while working for one of their experimental “Choice Schools.” Justin returned home in the fall of 2019 to teach for Dickson County Schools. He was named “Best Teacher” in Dickson County by the readers of the Dickson Post newspaper in 2022 and 2023.
Justin and his family are people of strong faith. They attend Walnut Street Church of Christ and are active in many community events and organizations. In addition to teaching, Justin is also a writer. He has written over 100 published articles on local history. He also hosts a podcast and radio show that covers local news and events.
